Identity, custom typeface and campaign design for Game On: Experience 50 years of videogames.
Game On is an international exhibition about 50 years of video games, in co-production with Barbican Centre London. The exhibit contains the largest playable collection in the world. There are more than 120 arcade cabinets, handheld games and game consoles, and everything in between. For the Dutch stop of the exhibit at Forum Groningen we created a full identity, pairing the visual design system of Forum with original and unique character traits.
A key component is the very recognizable wireframe grid that resembles early 70’s games. Another key part is the titlehead for which we created an original typeface with reference to 80’s Sega and Nintendo logotypes. Furthermore the identity system leaves room for various content, from early pixelesque game characters to modern ultra HD gaming visuals. The identity was implemented in all public marketing communications as well as in the actual exhibition design.
